One-Minute Rideshare Denial Videos

The National Association of Guide Dog Users (NAGDU), a division of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), is collecting stories from handlers who have been denied rides from Lyft and Uber drivers in video form from October 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022. Our goal is to put these videos together to present to the individual rideshare companies to make them aware that blind people with legitimate guide dogs and other service animals are still getting denied by drivers all over the country. You do not have to be a member of the NFB or NAGDU to submit a video. We ask that the videos are filmed after a denial occurs, not during. Videos should be no longer than one minute in length and should describe who you are and the impact of the denial. I.E. did you miss a doctor’s appointment or were you late to pick up your child from daycare? By submitting a video, you are giving us permission to share your information with Lyft and/or Uber.

Important Information

• The one-minute video should be about one company, not both. I.E. If you have experienced denials from both rideshare companies, you can submit two videos, one about Lyft and one about Uber.
• The one-minute video should contain your name, the city where the denial took place, when it took place, what excuse if any was given, and how did the denial affect you. I.E. Hello, my name is Raul Gallegos and I am a blind person who travels with a guide dog. This past December, I missed my flight from Houston Texas because I was denied by a Lyft driver, who claimed that my dog might cause people with allergies to have problems. Because of this denial, it took me more than 30 minutes to get another ride since it was 5 in the morning. Consequently, I missed my flight and had to spend more than 8 hours at the airport than originally planned while re-arranging my travel plans.
• We are looking for rideshare denials that happen during the six-month period of October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022.
• Although the video collection period will end on March 31, we will accept the one-minute videos for one week after. I.E. A denial takes place on March 31, 2022 and the one-minute video about it is submitted on April 4, 2022.
• If you are able to record your own video, you will need to share it with the NAGDU board through a cloud-share service like Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive.
• If you would like assistance with recording your video, please contact the NAGDU board and we will schedule a 30-minute window so we can record the video using Zoom.

Regardless of this one-minute video project, we highly encourage you to continue filling out the NFB Rideshare survey if you experience a discrimination because you are traveling with your guide dog.
